DANCE FOR YOUR LIFE
The HUMAN international culture project on LESVOS
HUMANexperience, with Royston Maldoom & Nanni Kloke
A two-week community dance project to build bridges between young people from the refugee camp and the local community at Lesvos – Greece.
The concept of HUMANexperience is based on the 13 themes of the Music Suite of Helge Burggrabe. It is an Community Dance project where participants will express existential human themes. The stories of the participants will be the base to develop dance sequences and choreographies, supported by the music pieces from the ‘HUMAN orchestral work’ by Helge Burggrabe as well as other music.
Royston Maldoom, British choreographer who has been directing community dance projects worldwide for many decades. His moving work became known to the general public in particular through the film “Rhythm is It!” with students from Berlin-Neukölln in cooperation with Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (2004).
Nanni Kloke is a dancer and choreographer, has been working with Royston Maldoom for many years. She is the founder of the Art for Peace Foundation, an initiative with the aim of inspiring a culture of peace and hope through art and intercultural learning.
‘It is a matter close to my heart,’ says Nanni Kloke, ‘to create safe, creative spaces where young people can experience strength, hope and dignity through music and dance in the appalling conditions there. Together with local partners at Lesbos, we want to build bridges for tolerance and understanding between Locals and Refugees by dancing together.
